The ongoing CoVid-19 crisis has put internal communication at the centre of companies communication strategies to ensure business continuity. It has also challenged communicators to adapt to an ever-changing situation in which all regular communication processes were disrupted.

The four-hour online conference offers insights into the internal communication strategies implemented during the CoVid-19 crisis.  It provides professional communicators with valuable actions and strategies that can be implemented directly in their own work. In the age of social media we have got used to effectively react to extremely severe, but quick crisis. With Corona Virus we are experimenting something different: a long crisis whose ending point cannot be exactly forecasted. Therefore, any communication strategy must be put into a longer perspective: campaigns based on emotions and which seemed successful to cheer people up have proven to be wrong and extremely harmful. An excess of emotional engagement is complicated to sustain and can eventually generate distrust towards the company. This long crisis requires communication to manage emotions in the first stage, focus on the “now” dimension immediately after, and help people adapt to a “new normal” in the third stage (where we are now). In his talk, Alessandro Vanoni will elaborate on the critical role of communication in supporting people safety as well as trust towards the company and of course in supporting the business during disruptive times.
